Wrap a Kalashnikov or Saiga Rifle with a GunSkins AK-47 Rifle Skin
Although the AR-15 may be America's favorite rifle, the Kalashnikov (commonly the AK-47) has taken the spot as the world's most popular firearm. It has been estimated that gun owners collectively posses 75 million AK-47 rifles, roughly 15% of all firearms in the world. We're celebrating the Kalashnikov by featuring the AK-47 Rifle Skin.
History of the Kalashnikov
The design for the AK-47 can be traced to a Russian man named Mikhail Kalashnikov. Official documents called the firearm Avtomat Kalashnikova, or AK for short. Although the development started during World War II with the SKS Carbine, the first AK-47 variants didn't make their official debut until the Cold War in the 1950's.
The AK-47 was a milestone in firearm ingenuity. For the first time, a reliable, selective fire, assault weapon was available for mass production at a reasonable price. The gun was very easy to use and was less likely to jam when compared to its predecessors. Today there are many variations of AK-47 rifles, but they all contain the same fundamental gas-operated design of the original Kalashnikov.
The Saiga rifle was introduced in the 1970's, but didn't take off in popularity until two decades later. The lure of the Saiga was the fact that this model was designed for hunting and civilian use. In contrast, the AK-47 was traditionally considered a military issued weapon. Because the Saiga is produced under the same license issued from the factory that Mikhail Kalashnikov worked, they are considered "true Kalashnikovs".
AK-47 Rifle Skin
The GunSkins AK-47 Rifle Skin enables AK owners to add camouflage to their favorite firearm without the need to paint or bake it on. With pre-cut pieces to make installation a breeze, the AK-47 wrap will fit most AK rifles, including the Saiga variants. The kit comes with pre-cut pieces for the receiver, dust cover, safety selector, sight block, magazine, and picatinny rails (up to 16"). There is also a 7.5” x 22” piece of additional material for the buttstock, forend and other accessories.
Before installing an AK-47 Rifle Skin, it's crucial that the gun be cleaned and prepped before installation. Because AK-47s tend to be dirtier than most guns, we recommend being thorough in the cleaning process. It's not required that the gun be broken down, but the firearm should definitely have the clip emptied and the safety on before installation.
Kalashnikov rifles comes in so many variations, including the Saiga and other AK variants. Because of this, some pre-cut pieces may not fit without some form of modification. For example, the dust cover was designed to fit over the smallest scope mount we could find. If your gun has a larger scope mount, for example, it's easier to trim the material away rather than piecing it together to patch an exposed area.
